CLASHES BETWEEN THE ARMENIANS AND THE AZERI TURKS IN TEHRAN
TEHRAN - AzZaman
Azzaman learned that intermittent clashes have occurred between the
Armenians and the Azeri Turks during the last few days. This is due to
the arrival of April 24, a day where the Armenians of Tehran and other
Iranian cities organise manifestations to commemorate what they call
the slaughters committed by the Ottomans against the Armenians in
Turkey during the first World War. The Azeri Turks accuse the
Armenians of committing historical massacres against Azeri Muslims in
several Azeri cities in Iran and of committing slaughters against
their brethren in Karabagh in the Republic of Azerbeyjan when it was
conquered in the early nineties. These clashes occurred in the streets
inhabited by Armenians and specially near St-Sarkis Church located at
the intersection of Kerimkhan and Weyla streets in northern Tehran.
The clashes have resulted in the wounding of persons on both sides and
losses to the preparations made by the Armenians in view the
manifestations planned for Saturday. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the
burning of banners and emblems prepared by the Armenians for today's
manifestations. |
